As we begin another year, I would encourage everyone to think about how he/she can best contribute to the success of our club. We all have strengths in different areas. If we channel all our expertise and efforts, I know we can continue to serve our charities and our community in a very valuable way.

RI President Sakuji Tanaka is asking us redirect our energies towards positive goals and actively work for “Peace Through Service.” Since our founding, Columbia Metro Rotary has had an impressive record of helping others, and I know this year will be no different. As a result of our service, we have consistently received the Presidential Citation, and I encourage everyone to help us reach that goal again this year.

Please make it a habit to attend our meetings and visit this website often. We will have details about upcoming events posted in a timely manner, and your participation is vital to our success.

Metro Rotary begins its 20th Year under the able leadership of President Marcia Machens. Marcia is a devoted community advocate who has worked tirelessly on numerous Metro projects and committees. Marcia has been a Metro Rotarian since June, 2005. She is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.

Our officers and board of directors for this year are as follows:

Officers: President – Marcia Machens; President-Elect – Shawn Barnes; Secretary – Gena Patton; Treasurer – Rose Hayden; Sergeant-at-Arms – Kim Buckman; Past President Jim Sharrock; and Historian – Win Burggraaff

Board of Directors: Les Borgmeyer, Casey Buckman, Andrew Stone, Rob Bartel, Brad Nelson, Jim Spieler, Karen Brown, Sandra Logan and Bob Unrath.

President Marcia’s presided over her first meeting on July 11, and the first meeting of the new Board of Directors was later that same day.

Welcome to our website! I am excited to be leading Metro Rotary, and I look forward to a successful and rewarding year for us all.

Fellow members, I hope you are prepared for a year of fun and fellowship! We will continue our charitable support (both local and international), our volunteerism efforts and our social gatherings. In addition, I am excited about new opportunities we will have to work on both a local project and an international project with all of the Columbia Rotary Clubs!

Rotary International’s theme for 2012-2013 is: “Peace Through Service.”Our club has always had a strong record of serving others, and I know this year will be no exception. My hope is to engage membership and promote a sense of ownership of the club by members. I will challenge you as members to let the Board know what you would like to see Columbia Metro Rotary accomplish in the upcoming year.

If you are not a member of our club, I invite you to attend as often as your schedule allows. I am confident you will find our members engaging, the networking rewarding and the programs informative.
