Metro Rotary will host its monthly fellowship social from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1 at D. Rowe’s Restaurant & Bar (1005 Club Village; corner of Forum & Nifong behind Walgreen’s).
Metro members are encouraged to invite other professionals who may be interested in learning more about Metro Rotary and how Rotary serves others. In addition, the opportunity will exist for everyone to visit with fellow Rotarians as well as get acquainted with new members. We hope to see you there!
Metro 2012 Vocational Service Award
Metro Rotary has annually recognized a member of the community for his/her contributions to better the Columbia area. Metro Rotarians are encouraged to nominate someone who encourages vocational excellence and practices high ethical standards.
Some of the past recipients include: Robert Ross, Jr.-City of Columbia, Officer Shelley Jones-Columbia Police Department, Mike Hood-Columbia Parks & Recreation Department, Steve Sapp-Columbia Fire Department, Sheriff Ted Boehm-Boone County Sheriff, Judge Christine Carpenter-Drug Court & Mental Health Court, Mayor Darwin Hindman-City of Columbia, Captain Brad Nelson-Columbia Police Department, Don Laird-Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Karen Taylor-Boone County National Bank and last year’s recipient Bill Watkins-Former Manager, City of Columbia (below).
From the nominations submitted, the Vocational Service Committee will select one to be awarded the 2012 Vocational Service Award from Metro Rotary. This award will
be made at a regular club meeting in April.

Trivia Night Thank You!
A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make Metro’s Annual Fundraising Event a success! It was a wonderful evening of fun and fellowship. This year’s winning team was The Danish Moderns!

2012 Metro Trivia Night
Metro’s annual fundraising event will be held THIS FRIDAY, February 3 at the Knights of Columbus Hall (2525 North Stadium Blvd.). Plan to join fellow Rotarians and friends for what has become a fun-filled evening of fellowship, good food and fun! Doors open at 5:45 p.m. A dinner buffet provided by Sam Bennett will begin at 6:00 p.m. with trivia starting at 7:00 p.m. Auction items will be available for purchase. If you have items to donate, please contact Marcia Machens.
Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Douglass High School Bike Club! This is our main fundraiser for the year! Each member is expected to sell, sponsor or donate $100 for the event. If you have not picked up raffle tickets yet or indicated your commitment, please contact Les Borgmeyer as soon as possible!

Believe it or not, our Rotary year is nearly half over. Our club continues to succeed with international and local projects, with fundraising activities and exchange student sponsorships. Partners in Education Update
Metro Rotary is proud to be Partners in Education with the Columbia Public Schools’ Title I Program. For the 8th straight year, Metro presented Leadership Development Awards to selected schools. This year’s recipients were Derby Ridge Elementary, West Blvd. Elementary, Rock Bridge Elementary and Rock Bridge High School.

Metro Night at the MU Concert Series
The Annual Metro Rotary Night at the MU Concert Series is planned for Saturday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. Attendees will enjoy The Nebraska Theatre Caravan’s performance of “A Christmas Carol.”
The event will be held at Jesse Auditorium, and the VIP reception will begin at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are only $30 each, and proceeds from the sales will benefit Polio Research.

Deadline for ticket purchases is November 25 at 12:00 noon!

2011 Thanksgiving Luncheon
Mark your calendars for the Annual All Columbia Rotary Club Luncheon. This year’s event will be Tuesday, November 22. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott (3301 Lemone Industrial Blvd.). Tickets are $25 each.
Raffle prizes are being solicited from members of all clubs, and proceeds will benefit the new Ronald McDonald House and the Columbia Public Schools’ Dictionary Project.
An interactive dictionary game is being planned for the club presidents, so plan to attend and cheer on President Jim as he represents our club.
