Dedication of Donovan Endowed Scholarship

Since the untimely death of “Mr. Rotary,” Tim Donovan, in September 2009, the Downtown Rotary Club’s Board of Directors has been planning a suitable memorial project. The board settled on converting the existing loan fund at the MU Student Financial Aid Office into the Tim Donovan Endowed Scholarship Fund. The board hopes that over time the endowed fund will grow to the point that multiple scholarships can be awarded each year.

On June 23, 2011, the Downtown Rotary Club will have a special dinner meeting in lieu of the usual noontime club meeting to dedicate the Donovan Scholarship and announce further details. They are inviting all club members and their spouses and dates, as well as members of other local Rotary Clubs and Rotarians from throughout District 6080 and other Missouri Rotarians who worked with Tim over the years.

The June 23 event will be held at Peachtree Catering & Banquet Center, 120 East Nifong Blvd., Columbia, MO 65203. RSVPs are due by June 17, 2011 to Judy Elliott, and can be mailed to her at 2702 Bayonne Ct., Columbia, MO 65203 or emailed to this address.  If necessary, her phone number is 573-445-3194. The cost will be $25/person, and advance payment is requested. Make checks payable to “Rotary Club of Columbia.” Donations of more than $25/person will be used to help defray the expenses of the event, and any excess will go to the Donovan Scholarship Fund.

The event will begin with a cash bar and entertainment at 5:30 p.m. June 23. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., and the program will start at 7 p.m. For a flyer describing the event, please go here.
