September is New Generations Month
Did you know that September is New Generations Month for Rotarians? It’s called that because we know that investing in our young people is the same as investing in our future. Worldwide, Rotarians take pride in the fact that they have youth and young adult programs available for many to explore and enjoy.
Locally, we invest in several ways: 1) The newest addition to our Rotary family is the Columbia city-wide Interact Club (high school) which was established two years ago with funding raised at the All Club Thanksgiving Luncheon. This year (2015-16) Metro will establish an Interact Club at Douglass High School. 2) Metro has been very supportive of the RYLA event each year, proudly sponsoring local students at this week-long camp and then inviting them to share their experience with us at a club meeting. 3) The Rotaract club is relatively new, and it has provided an excellent opportunity for young professionals in Columbia to learn and grow in service. 4) The Youth Exchange Program has been an important part and very popular part of the Rotary International story. Additionally, it has been a wonderful part of our Metro history. Our club remains open to the possibility of hosting international students again while owning the logistical issues which have kept us from sponsoring our own exchange students for the past couple of years.
I challenge you to learn more about any one (or more) of these opportunities. The time you devote to today’s youth and young professionals will indeed Be a Gift to the World.
Thanks again to each of you for your dedication to Metro Rotary!
