January is Vocational Service Month

The theme of our Rotary year is “Rotary serving humanity”, and the start of the new calendar year is a great time to think about how you can use your professional skills to strengthen our community.

One way to use them is to share your experience and knowledge with youth and young adults through our community mentoring project, Reach-Out Metro! This project officially kicks off on January 24 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Family Impact Center and we hope to see you there. If you can’t make it to that event, just talk to me or Tom Rose and we would be happy to get you involved.

The As you kick-off the new year it might also be useful to review the values that govern your profession or business and compare them to our Rotary 4 Way Test, noting where they align, and thinking about how you put both into practice. As I tell my law students, integrity counts in the long run, and our focus on ethics as well as service is one of the distinguishing characteristics of Rotary.  I wish you all an excellent year both in your vocation, and in your avocation as Rotarians, putting “Service above self.”
