June is Rotary Fellowship Month
June is Rotary Fellowship Month. I hope you appreciate the irony of this as we close out the Rotary year meeting via Zoom. Little did I know when I began this journey that this would be how my term would end. It is what it is, and the board and our members have done a remarkable job making Rotary relevant in these unusual times.
Metro Rotary is an outstanding club. Our membership has remained stable. We support each other as we serve our community. We stand by members as they face challenges in their work and personal lives. We provide support, comfort, and encouragement. It has been amazing to see how our members use our Metro “network” to assist each other.
This year has been challenging for our country and our community, yet we as Rotarians have continued to think about others and their needs. Mr. Rogers told children when there was trouble to “look for the helpers”. Rotarians and particularly Metro Rotarians are those helpers.
I am proud of our club and it has been an honor to serve as president. I have learned a lot about how important fellowship and our work are to the vitality our club. I know that we have made a difference in the lives of young people and families in Columbia and around the world. Covid-19 may change how we live our lives and interact with others. Our method of gathering may look different but our fellowship and our desire to serve our community and the world won’t change. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to lead the club. Thank you for your support and encouragement along the way. It’s been a great ride!
