Upcoming Social Events
During 2017-2018, Columbia Metro Rotary will continue its tradition of regular fellowship events. If schedules allow, we will try to host at least one event per month. Please keep your eyes on the newsletters and website for more details. We would love to have you join us!
In the past, our club has scheduled a variety of events to offer our members an opportunity to socialize outside the regular club meeting times. In the past, such events have included picnics to welcome our exchange students, a float trip and many athletic events (basketball, football, baseball, soccer, gymnastics). We conclude each year with our annual Metro Charter Night celebration in June.
Should you have any questions about upcoming events, or have an idea you would like to propose, please contact the Fellowship Committee Chair Cale Mitchell.
Metro members will continue to attract professional men and women who share common goals for community betterment. Membership diversity will continue to be a high priority, and all members are encouraged to contribute to the growth of our club. Our excellent programs will continue, and our distribution of club activities to members and the local media will remain constant as we strive to inform everyone of Metro involvement in community affairs, the history of Rotary and the object and scope of Rotary.
Metro will continue to devise and carry out plans that will guide and assist members of our community with regard to welfare and quality of life issues. We will continue our support of the Central Missouri Food Bank’s Score Against Hunger Campaign and our volunteerism efforts for the Salvation Army’s bell ringing campaign. The distribution of bicycles to disadvantaged youth has been a popular project, and will be continued. Also, our support of students to the annual RYLA camp will continue.
Members will use their vocational expertise to assist with business and education projects as requested. For several years, members have volunteered to judge the annual Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) contests in Columbia. This strong volunteerism will continue. By participating in mentoring, career days, vocational awards, etc. Metro members can assist hardworking members of our community and students who may need direction and/or expertise.
Metro Rotary has been known for its support of exchange programs. Our members seem to learn as much from the hosting experiences as our guests. We look forward to continuing the successful exchange student program. Also, we are fortunate to have a strong committee overseeing Rotary Foundation activities. Fund development will continue as well as educational programs on Foundation programs (i.e. PolioPlus).
