CLUB SERVICE

Metro members organize our annual Trivia Night and also arrange our excellent weekly programs that keep us in touch with what is happening throughout the community.  We have regular opportunities for Fellowship beyond the weekly meetings, and we are proud to have a club where 50% of our members are women (proud of our men too!) and many generations are supported and interact well (members range from 30s to 90s). Membership diversity is a priority of both our recruitment and retention efforts.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Metro members actively serve throughout the community in many different ways.  The club has volunteered countless hours to mentor young adults in our community through ReachOut Metro. If you look around town, you will see our club’s name on plaques for past projects that we helped to sponsor including the new accessible playground at the Farmer’s Market, the rain garden at Park Avenue Preschool, and both the fitness trail in front of Douglass High and the gardens in the back.  Our longest running Community Service Project is our Partnership In Education with the school district’s Title 1 pre-school program.  This program began in 2003, and we have proudly donated over $20,000 to purchase books and other literacy aids for CPS schools and the District’s new Center for Early Learning.

VOCATIONAL SERVICE AND NEW GENERATIONS SERVICE

Metro members use their vocational expertise to assist with a variety of business and education projects.  We mentor youth through our Reach Out Metro project and have provided workshops on networking, interviewing, and resume building at Rock Bridge, Hickman, and Battle high schools.  Annually we recognize a community member who represents the Rotary ideal of Vocational Service. This year’s recipient was Gary Moreau, Executive Director of Mobility Worldwide (pictured below).
